Update

So, con season is upon us again and I figured I should post an update.  Firstly, the updates on this site slowed as I became pregnant around Labor Day 2014.  My due date was May 11, 2015 which was very close to the date of the Sci-Fi Valley Con at the Blair County Convention Center.  It didn't matter; I was still planning on going, even if I had to take the baby with me.  Unfortunately, on our anatomy scan (which took place on Christmas Eve) they saw "abnormalities" of the baby's brain.  On January 6th, I had an appointment with a specialist and they confirmed a Trisomy 13 diagnosis with holoprosencephaly.  The doctor used the term "incompatible with life," which some trisomy parents are trying to get banned in descriptions of trisomy babies.  Unbeknownst to me, my baby had a heart defect where he only had two chambers instead of four.  I didn't know this until I was at the hospital being admitted because the baby's heart stopped.

Matthew Alexander Knight was born March 4, 2015.  We had his memorial service on March 14th.  Thanks to a great support system including family and friends, my husband and I will get through this tragedy.  March is actually Trisomy Awareness month, so I thought it was appropriate to make a post about this and make other people aware.  It was just a random genetic accident.  One doctor described it as being struck by lightening.  I have to stop myself from asking, "Why us?" because there is no answer.

Anyway, thinking of the cons coming up and being a nerd and possibly participating in some cosplay is a good way to keep my brain on the right track and not sink into depression.  I hope to be updating this page more regularly as Barbara and I make plans for Sci-Fi Valley Con.
